In her early years, Whitney was immersed in a world of creativity. Her mother, a gifted artist, painted her bedroom walls to create a jungle-themed playroom. At the same time, Whitney's grandmother showcased her talents in oil painting, silk-screening, knitting and quilting. Eager to create with them, Whitney's early smudges transformed into a journey of exploration through drawing, collage, pastels, paint, and any medium that offered a creative adventure. Although she created art throughout her life, she rekindled a more consistent practice in 2021.

Currently, Whitney enjoys working with acrylics, mixed media, drawing, and experimenting with diverse mediums and materials. As a self-taught artist, she draws inspiration from her extensive life experiences for self-expression. She believes maintaining an open mind is crucial for creating art that is innovative and unrestricted.

"Making art requires us to notice spaces with all of our senses. We become alert to the obvious and the nuanced. We see, touch and smell things that insist on being explored. People, places, and objects reveal a sundry of narratives. Some involve lives fully defined. Others invite you to be complicit in their imagined realities. Creating beckons us to accept an adventure.

To create is to envelop yourself in the unknown, to excavate and scavenge in the recesses of your imagination and to play in the crevasses of light and colour. This is as true for colouring in the lines as it is for animating a blank slate. Pieces become embodied with the simple stories, rich histories, dark secrets, and exciting adventures that bloom from our intuition, imagination, observations and reflections.

Making art for me is a time for play and whimsy and, once in a while, vital honesty. In making art and sharing it with you, I hope to evoke feelings of comfort, curiosity and hopefulness and, once in a while, the depth of life experience."
